The Cultural Association of Vall de Lord is an institution founded in 1946 by a group of residents of Sant Llorenç de Morunys interested in the history, traditions, cultural heritage and landscape in Vall de Lord.

The romanesque in Vall de Lord

La Vall de Lord has always maintained a sparse population, consequently, the area hosts a significant number of rustic chapels, and churches. A comprehensive inventory, would indicate a number of 89  existing in the space of the four municipalities. In “Catalunya Romànica” are described 42, which still-present typical patterns of romanesque architecture.

With the exception of the church of Sant Llorenç de Morunys and Graudescales monastery, the rest are constructions of a single nave, barrel vault, sometimes slightly pointed. Among these, we should mention  Sant Serni del Grau or Vilamantells, Santa Creu dels Ollers, Sant Lleïr de Casabella, and Sant Martí de Guixers, all of them –dated from the eleventh century- are located near the town of Sant Llorenç with easy access.
But the most monumental romanesque buildings are the monastery of Sant Pere de Graudescales and the temple of Sant Llorenç, which formed the basis of the ecclesiastical organization of the Vall de Lord in early medieval times. Regarding the first, located on the riverside of Aigua d’Ora river is dated from the first half XI century, although has precedents documented  since the beginning of s. X. It has a nave 16 meters with a transept and three apses decorated in a Lombard style.
The church of Sant Llorenç looks no romanesque exterior, because of the many reforms undergone in the course of time, however, the interior retains all the romanesque standards. It has three naves, the main cannon-coated, ending in three apses, without cruise. Its construction is dated in the beginning of s. XI, on a pre-romanesque church of s. IX.

Finally, we include a civil romanesque construction: the bridge of Vall-llonga from XII century. It was originally located on the river Cardener downstream from the town of Sant Llorenç in an area now covered by the Llosa swamp. Precisely this fact motivated that were removed stone by stone, to be moved to where now you can admire it, a kilometer from Sant Llorenç in direction to la Coma.
